NOTE FROM THE INTERIM PASTOR
The question was asked, “What is the difference in
an interim minister and a regular (or permanently Installed minister)? I
would answer that an interim minister (or as I see it) comes to bridge the
gap between installed ministers, providing continuity in the Sunday worship
experiences, along with providing leadership to the church as a whole.
While the duration of ministry might be considerably different than a
permanently installed pastor, I come to provide all the same ministerial
functions such as preach and lead the Sunday morning worship service,
officiate at weddings, funerals, baptisms and child dedication services,
and provide all of the other services a regular minister would do; along
with providing general ministerial and pastoral leadership, as if I were
permanently installed.
Most of all, as a temporary shepherd, I hope to be your pastor and
friend. This might be a transitional time for us, but the ministry of the
church continues on.
With each passing day I become more comfortable and settled at the
church, as I am in my home and our community.
Blessings be with you all.
Milton Bryarly,
Interim Pastor

Thank you so very much for your kindness and concern during my
recent illness, also, the cards, phone calls and notes. The meals were
great and it certainly did help us so much. I have gained some weight
which is good FCC women’s cooking. We do have some wonderful cooks. I
thank you all so much. Sincerely, Pat Carr

surely miss you. Steve and Blossom Sturm

MEN AND WOMEN SERVING OUR COUNTRY
This month’s Cookies for a Cause will benefit men
and women in our Armed Forces. We have a list of items that servicemen
would enjoy having while they are deployed. If you can donate one or
several of the items on the list, you can bring them to church until the
end of the month and place them in the basket in the foyer. The list of
items is in your bulletin. If you would like to donate money for postage
costs, a basket will be on the cookie table at the back of the church after
Sunday service.
We also have a prayer list with servicemen and women’s names.
That list is on the back of the donation list. We do not know the
religious preferences for the servicemen deployed to Afghanistan, so it was
requested that we make no religious reference in correspondence.
And last of all, if you would write letters or send packages to a
service person, we also have names and addresses. Please see Jennifer or
Lenora for a name.
Many of the service people are from Aaron Devan’s unit that
deployed to Afghanistan this week. Matthew Proctor, Dale and Donna
Atkeson’s grandson and Jason Cady, Ruth Walker’s grandson are also
included. If you have a service person in your family that you would like
include, please contact the office.
From Our South Central District Minister:
Please keep Molly Bridwell, daughter-in-law of Renee Bridwell, South
Central District Minister in your prayers. Molly is a Navy Petty Officer
1st Class. After about three weeks of stateside preparation which began
today, she will go to Iraq on January 24 for a seven month assignment as an
air traffic controller at a Marine base. She leaves behind a 13 month old
daughter (the most beautiful, intelligent and personable grandbaby in the
world, though Debbie Elwick or others might want to challenge me on that
assessment!) Beautiful little Mackenzie is in the care of her daddy Mike,
in Oceanside, CA where he is a civilian air traffic controller and a Naval
Reservist. I’m on standby for care duties, should he be called into
service. Molly is expected back stateside in September, though such things
are subject to change. Please pray for her and for all who are in service
and for the separated families.
Please also pray for those who have returned from service. My
nephew, Jason, spent most of 2008 on the Iran-Iraq border and now suffers
from PTSD. As a reservist he has been unable to find employment upon
return. It seems that many civilian employers are reluctant to hire
reservist because of the possibility they will be called up for service.
Renee Bridwell, SCD Minister
Update of our Military List:
For some time now, we have provided a list of military personnel to
be lifted up in prayer. This list needs to be updated. In addition to the
prayer list provided with Cookies for a Cause this month, if there are
other military members that you as a church family would like to be kept in
prayer, please contact Marsha Devan or Dee in the office with their names
and duty station so that an updated list can be posted next week.

CHURCH GROWTH
Valentine Dinner -
During February, we treat our favorite honey and/or ourselves with
gifts of love and special treats. Often this includes a dinner to your
favorite restaurant. How about letting Chef Peggy and her “staff” treat
you to a great dinner? We will be serving roast beef, green beans
almandine, mashed potatoes and gravy, green salad, rolls and cherry cheese
cake.
This dinner will be here at the church on Saturday, February 7th at
6:00. If you need a baby sitter, some of the youth will be providing this
service for us. Please let us know if you will need this service.
The cost of this dinner is $12.00 each. You may buy your tickets
the next two Sundays. If you are writing a check, please make it out to
Lenora Heath. We will be using this money to buy the food for the dinner.
Please join us for an evening of great food, fellowship, and
celebration of this wonderful holiday. We will be ending our evening with
a fun game of Bingo. We know this will be an evening to remember. Thanks,
Church Growth

YOUTH NEWS
Super Bowl Party -
Super Bowl Sunday Is February 1st, and the youth would like to make
your day truly super by inviting you to join us after worship for a super
bowl of hearty soup and all the fixings to go with it. Come check out our
silent auction table and participate in a friendly bidding war with other
members of our congregation. All proceeds from this event benefit our
youth by providing funds for mission trips and other events throughout the
year. Please plan to join us!
P.S. Don't throw away that thingamabob that works fine but just
isn't right for you. Let our youth put it in our silent auction. Or maybe
you have books, DVDs or CDs that you no longer need. We'll take them! If
you have gently or never used items that you would like to donate to our
auction, please bring them to the church this Sunday, January 25th.
Thanks!
