NOTE FROM THE PASTOR MILT
This past Sunday was
Mother’s Day. People gathered from far and near to celebrate Mother’s
Day with their families. It was a great day to celebrate in worship.
The afternoon was filled with special activities for our graduating
seniors at Campus High School. Seniors were recognized for their various
awards and achievements. This was followed by the Baccalaureate Service.
I came away very impressed at how the Baccalaureate Service was
presented. It is a program of the Haysville Ministerial Association, put
together with a planning team of seniors, Campus faculty advisors, and a
pastor from the Ministerial Association. One of our young people, Austen
Mundell, was not only on the planning team; Austen needs to be commended
for the fine job of bringing the benediction to the service. Dr. John
Burke, school district superintendent, shared some inspirational words to
the graduates and the rest of the audience. It was a good service from
beginning to end, and all in a span of 38 minutes by my watch.
There are groups and organizations that would want to discourage
such programs and services taking place at our schools. This brings about
great fear, as we are more afraid of the consequences. As I have learned
in previous places, there are those who want to put God in a box somewhere,
and do not want to be disturbed by Him. However, God is greater, and can
do far more abundant things than we might ask or think.
Baccalaureate deserves our support; support by our presence. We
need to thank the school and the superintendent of schools for their active
participator support as well. It is well with my soul.
Blessings be with you all. Milton Bryarly, Interim Minister

and the play, “Smoke on the Mountain.” The play takes place in the
sanctuary of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, NC on a

YOUTH SERVICE
Our youth will be
leading our worship service on Sunday May 24th. We are looking forward to
this opportunity to showcase our youth and their wonderful and distinctive
personalities. Please plan to attend services on that day. I am certain
that you will be blessed because of it. Following worship we invite you
all to stay for a carry-in dinner and our first time Bake Off event.
Please bring a casserole or side dish to share with others. Table service
and drinks will be provided.

BAKE-OFF
Who will be crowned as
Queen (or King) Frostine? Whose piece of pie will be the "piece de
resistance"? It will be up to YOU to decide! Following worship on the
24th we will have a Bake Off event wherein you may purchase tokens for a
nominal fee (5 for $1). You will then use those tokens to vote for your
favorite dessert that members from our congregation have whipped up for
your pleasure. So wear your "hungry pants" (those with an elastic
waistband) and come ready to PAR-TAY!
We would like to encourage every family to enter a favorite dessert
in our Bake-Off. We need sugar free recipes as well. Contact Machaelle
ASAP to enter and to let her know the name of your creation. Thanks!

PENTECOST SPECIAL OFFERING
First Christian will
receive the Pentecost Offering Sunday, May 24 and 31
Money from the offering is evenly divided between New Church
Ministry, which represents the wider churdn, and the region where the
giving congregation is located. To meet the challenge of continuing to
grow new churches, all congregations are asked to participate in this
special day offering. Since 2001, more than 600 new churches have been
started, reaching more than 40,000 new Disciples in communities where we
once had no witness.
(Disciples News Service)
Pentecost marks new beginnings. It is the time when the church
established itself and began to move out. On Pentecost, at the conclusion
of the service, our Evangelism Committee we lead us to launch 125 balloons
from our parking lot, as a means of reaching out from this place with the
Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ.

FLAG
Captain Aaron Devan, a
weapons systems operator, with the United States Air Force sent a very
special flag to the First Christian Church of Haysville as a way of
thanking the congregation for their support, prayers and gifts of letters
and various goodies that were sent to him and his squadron.
The four foot by six foot American flag was flown in an F-15E Strike
Eagle during a mission over the Afghan/Pakistan border where a suspected
terrorist was the target. The mission was a success.
Aaron Devan, son of Marsha and Dennis Devan and April Smith,
daughter of Peggy and Paul Smith, grew up in First Christian Church and
were married in October of 2004.
The flag, along with a letter and certificate, was presented to the
congregation by Aaron's mother, Marsha Devan and mother-in-law, Peggy Smith
on Mother's Day 2009.
Captain Devan's squadron is scheduled to return to their home base
of Lakenheath in England sometime the week of May 10.
