THE QUESTION IS . . .
The fireworks have ended; all the sparkle has left
the sky,
And I am left here wondering just how many had to die.
Do we stop in all our playing to realize the price that our
forefathers had to pay, on that first Independence Day?
It's time to be accountable for the things that we must do to
keep our country free; to keep our church doors open and help
our children see that freedom is never ever free. There is always
work for you and me.
May God in His infinite mercy forgive the way we live. Where
business takes the forefront with earnings close behind. Never
mind the crying children, the families left behind, just keep that
money coming so that we can go to town.
America, take a look at what you have become. When God looks
down from heaven will he say, "My child, well done?"

Good News! Grandfather of Jennifer Jimenez is home
from the hospital and doing better. Thanks for your prayers.

Joyce Andrade retired July 2, 2008! Plinio and Joyce have been
visiting with Plinio's family in McAllen, TX.
There will be no Kids For Christ (4 years old through 5th grade) the
month of July; instead we will have a Children's Sermon each Sunday.
It's a small, small world . . . the mother-in-law of Ruth Walker's
daughter is Dorothy (Pfeiffer) Wimmer. The sister-in-law of Merrill Deck is
Alice (Pfeiffer) Deck. Dorothy and Alice Pfeiffer are sisters. Wow! What
information you learn while waiting to be seated for Friends Night Out at
Carlos O'Kelly's.
DeeAnne Proctor and Darise Fillmore are on a music mission trip to
Greece. DeeAnne and Darise are the daughters of Dale and Donna Atkeson.
They started chemotherapy again for Pat Carr. She received a report
that the cancer has shrunk. She still needs our continued prayers. Praise
the Lord for Pat's good report.
Johnna Hall had a fun trip to Kansas City last week-end with her
daughters, Yolanda (18) and Teresa (17).
I asked for prayers for my van as the starter was going out. On a
Thursday a card came in the mail with money to pay for it. No name, only a
verse (Luke 6:38). At the same time I was looking for a mechanic to fix
it. A customer told me his son-in-law had opened Trubo's. I called and he
had it in the next day at 8:30 a.m. and returned it by 12:00 so I would
have a car by the time I got off work at 1 p.m. Billie Trent

PROTOCOL FOR TORNADO SIREN
First Christian Church has two safe halls
constructed for the purpose of withstanding tornadic winds. These halls
are the long halls going north and south.
In the event that a tornado siren sounds while the congregation
is worshiping in the sanctuary, an announcement will be made. Members of
the congregation will proceed in an orderly fashion to the back of the
sanctuary and form two lines facing the sanctuary doors. They will proceed
out the doors with one line going north and one line going south until they
reach the safe halls.
Parents with children in the KFC program should go to the south hall.
Nursery personnel will take the children, in their care, to the safe hall
near the nursery.
All classroom doors should be closed. Persons should avoid
standing in front of a classroom door.
Each safe hall is equipped with a battery operated radio and
flashlight. Someone will monitor the storm information and pass it on to
those in the hallways. You are asked not to go outside until information
can be obtained.
Should the siren sound during Sunday School, everyone will
proceed to the nearest safe hall and close the classroom doors behind them.
An announcement will be made when it is safe to leave.

CHURCH GROWTH
Family Fun Night
Saturday, June 12 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. will be our Family Fun
Night. We are going to fire up our grill and cook hamburgers and hotdogs
for our family. You bring a side dish and/or a dessert for a great meal.
When we finish eating, we are going to watch a family movie together in the
sanctuary. Kids bring your blanket or beach towel so you can stretch out on
the floor.
If you plan to come, please sign up on the table at the back of
the sanctuary. If you didn't get a chance to sign up, please call the
office (524-5884) and let us know how many will be attending.
A-OK
Have you ever received a birthday, anniversary or get well card from
the church? Every month, different women and men in the church take turns
addressing and sending cards to our church family who are celebrating a
special occasion. This is one of the projects that the A-OK ministry does.
We need someone to help address cards every month. There is a list on the
table at the back of the sanctuary for you to sign up for a month. The
months start with August and end with May.

CHEESECAKE DESSERT
(This is Joyce Andrade's recipe you asked for from
the 5th Sunday Brunch)
2 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese softened (I use 3 to make it thicker)
1 1/4 sticks real butter, softened and divided
1 1/2 cups sugar divided
2 T. vanilla extract divided
2 (8 0z.) cans of crescent roll dough
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9x13 baking pan with nonstick
spray.
Combine cream cheese (softened) and 4 T. butter in a large mixing
bowl. Beat at medium speed until the mixture is creamy. Gradually beat in
1 cup of sugar and 1 t. vanilla. (I add a pinch of cinnamon)
Unroll 1pkg. crescent roll dough, place in bottom of prepared pan
(DO NOT separate rolls at perforation). Press the dough to stretch to
edges of the pan, pressing down on the perforations with a fork. Spread
the cream cheese mixture in an even layer over the dough.
Unroll the remaining package of crescent roll and lightly place
on top of the mixture to shape of the 9x13 pan, covering the cream cheese
mixture.
In a small sauce pan, melt the remaining 6T. butter, stir in the
remaining 1/2 c. sugar, 1 t. vanilla and cinnamon. Stir until all is
mixed. Spread over the top of the crescent roll until top is covered.
Bake cheesecake for 30 minutes or until the cream cheese is slightly puffed
and the top is golden brown. Cool before serving.
(An extra treat is adding cool whip or vanilla ice cream on top before
serving)
