FROM THE INTERIM PASTOR
Labor Day is coming. As Memorial Day is the
unofficial beginning of summer, Labor Day has a way of signaling the
unofficial end to summer. We still have several days before Fall actually
begins. However, the leaves on the trees apparently are pushing the season
a little, as I see they are already falling from the trees at my residence.
Fall signals the start of something new. Children and young people
advance to a new grade in school. So also Sunday School classes begin anew
for our children and youth along with our adults. Christian Education
should be as much a part of our development as brushing our teeth is to our
hygiene and health.
As the leaves and pods fall from the trees, they have away of
leaving seeds in the grass to germinate over the winter. Come Spring we
will find a fresh group of seedlings coming up in our yards.
The Apostle Paul uses the agriculture metaphor in 1 Corinthians 3:6,
where he writes: “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has
been making it grow.” Bring A Friend Sunday September 20th is a way of
planting seed. We water or nourish that seed through encouragement,
worship, and Bible Study groups. God gives the increase.
Share the word. You might be surprised and blessed by what can
happen. I am anticipating this to be a great day. Plan now to be here.
Blessings be with you all.
Milton Bryarly, Interim Minister

BRING A FRIEND SUNDAY
By now you are aware that September 20th has been
designated as BRING A FRIEND SUNDAY for First Christian Church in
Haysville. The beginning place is for every member and friend of the
church to put this important date on your calendar.
This is a great congregation. We know it! So why are we keeping it
a big secret from the rest of the world and community around us. The
scripture instructs was to “Go, and make disciples.” Bring A Friend
Sunday has the possibility of being the beginning for someone.
Besides our 10:40 AM Worship Experience, a wonderful dinner is being
prepared by our Chef Philip. That promises to be a gourmet delight.
Plan now to be here September 20th for Bring A Friend Sunday. Share
this wonderful experience with a friend or someone that is very close to
you. With your attendance and participation, it will be a great day in the
life of our church.
There will be more information about Bring A Friend Sunday in
worship and in the weekly newsletter. Stay tuned.

GALA AND AUCTION INFORMATION
October 3, 2009
We have just completed the fifth summer at the Disciples Center and
are “Celebrating Five Years at Tawakoni” at this year’s event. I am
excited to personally invite members of your congregation to the Gala and
Auction on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the camp.
The Christian Church in Kansas has shown that it values the future
of its churches with its purchase of the Tawakoni campground in 2004. With
this investment, the Region has made “Raising Up Leaders” a priority.
Since then the Disciples Center at Tawakoni campground has expanded and
flourished.
However without financial support from individuals and congregations
across the Region, this vision would not be possible. The Gala and Auction
have been very successful in the past as it has raised over $80,000! This
year we hope to raise $25,000.
Tickets are $30.00. Tables are $240.00 for eight people. The
deadline to purchase tickets is September 19. Deadline for donations is
September 10.
Sincerely, Stephanie Switzky, Chair, Disciples Center at Tawakoni
