FROM THE PASTOR
This coming Sunday, October 26, is CONSECRATION SUNDAY. It is a
very important day in the life of our congregation. As an act of worship
near the end of our service we have the opportunity to indicate on a card
that will be provided the amount of money we plan to give to the church in
2009. Each individual or family is asked to be prayerfully considering
his/her/their role in this important ministry—the ministry of financial
giving, as CONSECRATION SUNDAY draws near.
Hopefully, we have come to view our giving money to the church not
merely as an obligation but as a joyful experience, keenly aware that we
are participating in a variety of ministries through our giving. Jesus
made the statement, “It is more blessed to give than receive” (Acts
20:35). Let us take his words seriously and share in the unique blessing
that comes from giving.
All of our gifts are important. Together we can enable the
church to accomplish God’s purposes through our faithful giving. What a
joy to be co-workers with God!
George

THANK YOU
Dear Church Family,
Thank you for your support and all the prayers and cards I received.
The food was so good that ya'll provided. It was nice of you to fit me
into your already busy lives so I appreciate it very deeply. I am going to
the doctor today. They will probably start me on therapy so I can once
again stand on my foot. I have been in front of TV for 5 weeks so I am so
ready to get in therapy. God bless and keep each and everyone of you safe.
Sincerely, Mary Mortensen
Dear Rev. Lespagnard,
Thank you for your generous gift of $1,131.00 for flood recovery
efforts at Cedar Christian Church. Words cannot express the full extent of
our appreciation for your contribution to help out during a very difficult
time. Most importantly, we appreciate your love and prayers. Your
willingness to help gave us hope when we were down.
Again we gratefully acknowledge your contribution and the love and
caring that goes with it. May God richly bless you.
Blessings, Raydell Wahlert, Cedar Christian
Church, Assistant Financial Secretary
Haysville First Christian Church Family and Friends,
On behalf of the Atkeson family, Kansas Police and Fire Athletic
Association and many other police and firefighters we would like to thank
you for your kind and generous contributions to the Heart of America Police
and Fire Games. Because of your contribution we were able to have a
wonderful dinner that ministered to our police and firefighters
contributing to a successful 2008 Heart of America Police and Fire Games.
The HFCC willingness to serve its community is a perfect example of the
light shining in a hurting world and one that is making a difference in the
lives of people looking for answers in a problematic world. Blessings,
Dan and Wendy Atkeson
Dear Friends:
Disciples are growing again thanks to your support of the Pentecost
Offering! On behalf of New Church Ministry and the 33 regions across the
United States and Canada we want to thank you for your support of the
Pentecost Offering this year. Your church increased their giving support
from last year.
Again, we want to thank you for your sacrifice and ask that as you
worship each week to pray for our new church planters that are starting
these new faith communities. Our more than 550 new churches with more than
40,000 new participants makes the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
one of the fastest growing mainline churches in North America.
Your congregation is an important part of our denomination wide
effort to start churches.
May the Lord bless your church and its ministry! Charlie Wallace,
Minister Congregational Relations

DID YOU KNOW?
To our friends at First Christian Church,
I just wanted to let you all know that Mom and Dad are now
residing at Larksfield Place Care Center. They both were admitted on
September 22nd.
After prayerful consideration it became evident that the care
they needed could best be done with skilled nursing in a controlled
environment. The notes and cards they have received at home over the past
years have been a blessing and great source of encouragement.
Future cards and letters would be welcomed. Although Mother
has always been Susan (her nick name) to many of you, please address
envelopes to Essie Hatcher. Yours in Christ, Doyle Hatcher

CHURCH GROWTH
This coming Friday night at 7:00 p.m. is our UFO night here at
church. Usually we meet on the last Friday of the month, but that night is
Halloween, so we are meeting this Friday, the 24th. If you have a craft
that you are working on, bring it to church and work on it here. Some of
us bring our sewing machines to work on quilts or other items, while others
bring scrapbooking items or work on cards. Once again if you have a craft
that you need to finish, bring it Friday night with a snack and enjoy lots
of fun and Christian fellowship. See you then!!

YOUTH NEWS
SOS for CIA is needed ASAP!
Adult help is needed on Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:15 p.m. If
you have a youth involved in the CIA program, please remember you are asked
to volunteer at least 4 weeks during the year. Of course, being a parent
is not a requirement for volunteering. Anyone who has a love for our youth
and the desire to see them grow in the spirit of Christ is welcome to join
forces with Commander Jason Chadd. To accept this mission contact Jason at
529-4219.
Do you have a favorite color, sports team or hobby? Use that as your
theme to decorate your vehicle for Trunk –or-Treat next Wednesday,
October 29. You don’t have to go overboard, but your chances of winning
a great prize will be better if you do! (Also, it’s all about the kids,
so go ahead and let your hair down and have some fun!) Sunday will be your
last opportunity to register your car and to sign up for the sloppy joe
dinner. Hope to see you there!
Going, going, gone! Sunday is also your last chance to order a
God’ Creations’ calendar or gift card set. These would make stunning
and practical gifts for teachers, co-workers, neighbors and relatives. If
you haven’t put your order in, would you please make sure you stop by the
table in the entry way and do so.
