FROM THE PASTOR
By the time you read this article “The
Road to Freedom” program in four of our Haysville schools will likely
have ended. The effects of the program, however, can go on and on—even
throughout the lives of the kids who put into practice the wisdom that was
shared.
Drugs and alcohol can destroy the lives of those who carelessly use
them. It is sad, but true, that the ease with which we make decisions
today may become difficult, or impossible, to undo in the future (without
consistent help).
Some choices are deadly and it is our responsibility to discourage
our loved ones and friends from making dangerous choices. How can we do
that? By caring. By praying. By listening. By looking at
possible/likely consequences. By loving them and telling them of God’s
love for them.
We have only one opportunity for life on planet earth. What a
waste to settle for less than God offers us.
George

THANK YOU
Dear Church family,
I want to thank you for paying our electric bill. We are so blessed
to have such a great church family that cares for us. Thank you for all
your prayers for mom. She is really doing well. They have her up and
walking, with help. She is still not able to use her left side. We are
hoping that she will be able to walk by herself. The goal is to have her
home by the 3rd of December. Thank you and God bless you. Annette Beal
Dear Friends,
The residents and staff of Kansas Christian Home would like to
thank you for your continuous support throughout the year. As we are fast
approaching another year end, the Holiday Season is once again upon us.
Thanks to you, Christmas 2007 was a huge success! The
residents were once again greeted on Christmas morning with gifts under the
tree.
Now as we are preparing for the 2008 Holiday Season we are
asking for your support. We ask that the gifts be new and delivered
unwrapped to the home by Sunday, December 16th. Of course if your
organization prefers to send cash donations, please indicate on your check
“Resident Christmas Fund.” Thank you again for your generosity and
your continued support. Sincerely, Nancy Kasper, Activities/Lifestyles
Director
Dear Christian Friends,
I am writing to thank you for your generous gift to support
Disciples Center at Tawakoni. Thanks so much for this wonderful gift as it
demonstrates the partnership you share with the Regional Church as we
strive to provide excellent ministry to youth and others at your regional
leadership center!
Steve Martin, Associate Regional Minister/Director of Camp
Ministries

DID YOU KNOW? . . .
In a ceremony held here at First
Christian on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 Morgan Wegner and Betsy Burke were
inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. Congratulations!
We had a good visit with Aaron and April in England. It was good to
spend some special time with them. Thanks for prayers for a safe trip!

2008 THANKSGIVING
OFFERING
Thanksgiving Offering will be received
at First Christian November 16 and November 23.
For two centuries, Disciples colleges and universities have trained
Disciples leaders to think clearly and rationally and to minister to the
world around them. While those first instructors and students might not
recognize campuses, those classic values live on in the 21st Century.
Disciples undergraduate institutions serve nearly 267,000 students
in a wide variety of settings—from a rural college town with several
hundred students to a metropolitan setting with almost 9,000 students.
Despite those differences, these schools share a commitment to the church,
emphasize spiritual faith and values, and cherish a commitment to a
liberal-arts education.

CHURCH GROWTH
Every year on the Sunday before
Thanksgiving we celebrate this holiday together as a church family. The
church growth committee puts this dinner together but we can’t do it
without your help. We need pies, salads, relish trays, 5 people to bake
turkeys and people to help clean up and help in the kitchen after the
dinner. If you will be able to help in one of these areas, please sign up
on the table at the back of the sanctuary. Food will need to be brought to
church on Sunday morning the 23rd of November. Thanks in advance for all
your help.

“HANGING OF THE
GREENS”
The celebration of Christmas is a very
important part of the church life of Christians.
“Hanging of the Greens” is a get-together we have prior to the
1st Sunday of Advent to decorate our church for the Christmas Season. The
first Sunday of Advent this year is November 30.
On Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. you are invited to
participate in the “Hanging of the Greens” at First Christian. Mark
the date on your calendar and plan to join us for a day of fun if we have
enough helpers, otherwise, it is a day of much work! Bring snacks to share
and enjoy!

HAYSVILLE COMMUNITY
OUTREACH
Dear Friends in Christ,
As we approach the holiday season we are once again looking for
volunteers to help with the Thanksgiving and Christmas projects.
Recipients of Thanksgiving food baskets and Christmas gifts and food
baskets are all residents of USD 261 school district.
Last year we filled 200 food boxes for distribution to eligible
families. We also provided Christmas gifts for 350 children. Volunteers
from nine different area churches assisted in these activities.
Thanksgiving volunteers are needed one night a week before
Thanksgiving to help fill the boxes and on the following Saturday to help
hand them out. This year the night to pack the food is Wednesday, November
12 at 5:30 p.m. The pick-up date is Saturday, November, 15 from 10 a.m. to
12 noon. “Giving Tree” times are up through December 7.
For the Christmas program, volunteers are needed each evening.

MUSICAL HEADLINES!
Have you been wondering when the choir
would surface again? Well, it’s on its way-along with your help and
support. The choir at First Christian is purely volunteer, from its leader
to its faithful singers and participants. We don't perform, we sing about
the Lord's wonderful gifts to us through music. On Sunday, November 16,
we're kicking off another season. The specials that we sing are centered
around the important holidays that we celebrate. On 4:00, P.M., Nov. 16,
we will meet in the sanctuary for an hour's rehearsal--yes, that is this
coming Sunday!!
Would you like to be a part of this group? The only audition is a
big smile and your presence. It may even be possible for us to "warm up" a
Thanksgiving hymn from yesteryears, and present it to you when we have our
Thanksgiving service (followed by our wonderful meal) the following week on
November 23.
I'll be calling some of you that have participated in the past. If
you don't get called, you can call me, or just show up at 4:00 P.M. next
Sunday. My number is 524-3910. Oh yes, I don't think we have to worry
about the musical police, either!
